Student Council Service Project - Playground Safety Video

The student council just completed a playground safety video as a service project for their school.  The seven students on the council did their own filming and script for the video and Mrs. Sievert helped them edit it together and post it to YouTube.  Check it out!

October Learning in the Library

We are hoping that the remodeled conference rooms will soon be ready to become a computer lab for our information skills classes so we won't have to crowd under umbrellas to see our laptop screens.  We are also excited about the Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by our PIE group arriving on October 25th.  Here are the topics and some of the websites and programs we will be focusing on this month:
Kindergarten - We will be learning to use graphic draw and paint programs and continuing to integrate technology with our letter of the week.
First Grade - We will also be reviewing graphic drawing and paint programs.  We learned to use the Windows based Paint program in Kindergarten and now will be learning to use Tux Paint for Kids.
Second Grade - We have started learning about internet safety and how to avoid the Webville Outlaws at Netsmartz Kids.
Third Grade - We have completed our unit on internet safety and are learning about the Dewey Decimal system and how to navigate the online card catalog to find the books we like to read.
Fourth Grade - We have completed our unit on internet safety and learned about recognizing and understanding advertising.  We used the website Admongo to practice:  What is this ad really saying?,  What product is this ad selling? and What does this ad want me to do?  We are using the Easy Tech program to learn about a variety of software  programs and how to connect hardware.  Fourth graders will also be using the digital cameras to produce a display of playground rules and safety tips.

Third Grade - We have been learning about internet safety and practicing avoiding wizzywigs at:  http://www.netsmartzkids.org/activities/index.htm
Fourth Grade - We started with a review of the locations of materials in the library and the use of the online card catalog.  We wrapped up the month with a Scavenger Hunt during Homecoming week!
